Synopsis

The essay examines some of the earliest translations in blank verses from the corpus Theocriteum (poems by Trissino, Alamanni, Amomo, Varchi, Mu-zio), attempting to reconstruct for each the possible source editions (on the basis of textual clues), identifying the classical texts (and in particular the Latin bucolic production) which compete with the Greek source fol-lowed in the translations, and pointing out possible reciprocal connections or echoes from the vernacular lyric tradition.
