Morte di un inquisitore e nascita di un santo. Questioni introduttive
Synopsis
What happened in 1252 in a wood not far from Milan had a huge influence in the history of medieval inquisition because there the inquisitor Peter of Verona was killed. One year later he became saint Peter martyr and his cult started spreading with evident difficulty to take root. The essay – an introduction of the articles of Grado Giovanni Merlo, Cristina Cattaneo, Massimiliano Bassetti, Gabriele Bellotti, Sara Fasoli, Maria Clara Rossi, Ettore Napione, Daniele Torelli, Eleonora Lombardo, Lucia Travaini, Luca Patria and Vincenzo Cassaro – shows the contest of the deeds and the main protagonists to better understand a complex situation and fragmen- tary documents. The account of Brother Serafino Razzi (1596) and of the inquisitor Arcangelo Marcasola (1596) are used for a knowledge of the reception of the figure of the inquisitor and saint in the modern period, so far pretty neglected.
