Dieci miti sull'intelligenza artificiale. Un progetto reazionario e le sue storie

Synopsis

‘This technology is here to stay’, ‘they’re just tools: what matters is how they’re used’, ‘AI can help disadvantaged students’, ‘technological progress marches on and the law always lags behind’, ‘many workers will be replaced by artificial agents’: myths about artificial intelligence serve to justify - and thereby protect - an oligarchy and its reactionary, authoritarian political project, aimed at further concentrating power, and at disguising the transfer of resources from labour to capital, and from the welfare state to military corporations, as technological innovation. Stories about intelligent machines serve to convince us that we ourselves are nothing but machines: without rights, vulnerable to all kinds of abuse, and expected only to obey. Those stories, however, are like the emperor’s new clothes.
