Author Biographies

Diego Rubolini, University of Milan

Professor of Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation at the University of Milan, where he is faculty member since 2007, and PhD in Experimental Ecology at the University of Pavia. His research activity focuses on the ecology, behaviour, and evolution of bird species, and he has conducted many studies on the impacts of environmental and climate change at different spatial and temporal scales. He has co-authored over 250 articles in international, peer-reviewed, scientific journals, and regularly gives scientific and public lectures on the impacts of climate change on birds and biodiversity.

Marina Nova, Associazione GuardaMI ETS

Naturalist and Natural Sciences teacher at the Brera Art High School in Milan, she is active in bird monitoring, research, and conservation projects, whose results have been published in specialized journals. President of GuardaMI ETS, she coordinates citizen science initiatives in the Milan metropolitan area, including the The Atlas of Breeding Birds in the City of Milan, of which she has been the main promoter. She conducts environmental education activities with museums, universities, local authorities and NGOs and regularly holds conferences on citizen science, urban ecosystems, and biodiversity.

Luca Ilahiane, University of Milan

Graduated in Natural Sciences at the University of Pavia, PhD in Chemistry and Biology at the University of Eastern Piedmont in 2023. Since 2014 he has been conducting monitoring and research on wildlife, particularly birds, in both technical-professional and academic contexts. He is interested in diverse yet interconnected topics, such as ecology in agroecosystems and urban environments, biogeography, and parasitology.

Marco Sozzi, Associazione EBN Italia

Birdwatcher and active member of EBN Italia, an NGO that promotes birdwatching in Italy. He has collaborated with national and local birds and biodiversity conservation NGOs such as LAC, LIPU, GOL, GIO, WWF Lombardia and FICEDULA. He has participated in local and national ornithological monitoring programs organized by the Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale (ISPRA) and the Museo delle Scienze, Trento (MUSE), contributing to the production of specialist publications. He has contributed to the implementation of the GuardaMI project and to the study of urban biodiversity in the city of Milan.

Roberto Lardelli, FICEDULA - Associazione per lo studio e la conservazione degli uccelli della Svizzera italiana

Co-founder of Associazione FICEDULA, he has always been involved in the development of citizen science projects. He collaborates with various research institutes, particularly on projects related to the monitoring of bird migration. He launched the Ornitho.it web portal, currently the main biodiversity data bank in Italy, laying the foundations for the publication of the new atlas of breeding birds in Italy and of several regional and local atlases. He is committed to biodiversity conservation and to environmental education, supporting teachers at all school levels.
