Synopsis

This volume introduces the theoretical and practical principles of tracer kinetics and compartmental modeling in Nuclear Medicine. After presenting the fundamental concepts of biological systems, tracers, and mathematical model analysis, the book describes the main compartmental representations and their associated differential equations. Particular emphasis is placed on positron emission tomography (PET) with 18F-FDG, including matrix formulation, Laplace transform methods, convolution theory, numerical integration, and the derivation of the Patlak graphical approach. The volume also provides practical examples and Python scripts for simulation, parameter estimation, and quantitative analysis of tracer kinetics.
