They are meant to satisfy two goals: on the one hand they could provide support material to Ph.D. students in Economics tackling their Microeconomics sequence, on the other hand they could provide a tool for researchers in Economics who would like to deepen their knowledge of the theory of consumer and producer decisions. One special feature of these notes is that they include both the standard analysis of consumer and producer behavior – as found in advanced microeconomics textbooks – and the so-called duality approach, which proves especially useful in applied and empirical work.
2026-07-17T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2026 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/281Matematica Finanziaria: fondamenti, metodi e applicazioni2025-11-19T10:51:29+01:00Andrea ConsiglioSimone GiansanteDavide Provenzano
The volume lays out the principles of financial mathematics with a structured and progressive approach, designed to help students grasp the key mechanisms that drive financial markets. After introducing fundamental concepts such as interest, discounting, and the time value of money, the textbook presents the models for evaluating cash flows, bonds, loans, and annuities. A central section examines the term structure of interest rates, risk measures linked to interest rate fluctuations, and indicators for comparing alternative investments, including NPV and IRR. The volume concludes with an overview of widely used derivatives, illustrating their role in protecting portfolios and managing interest-rate risk.
2026-07-15T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2026 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/276Agricoltura in città. In particular, the analysis focuses on two urban agriculture experiences located at the edges of the Municipality of Milan, promoted by CasciNet APS and Italia Nostra. The ultimate goal of the study is to understand the complexity of this phenomenon, highlighting its potential and limitations, and to develop guidelines for greater sustainability of projects implemented in this area.
2026-07-14T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2026 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/233Phraseology in Action: Theoretical Insights and Practical Approaches to Constructional Idioms, Idioms, Proverbs, and More2025-02-19T14:16:14+01:00Fabio MollicaCarolina FlinzRita LuppiMaricel Esteban-FonollosaHerbert J. It provides a comprehensive overview of the distribution of 80 species in the period 2009-2024, integrating the results of several citizen science projects. The evolution of Milan's urban bird community highlighted contrasting trends: on the one hand, an increase in biodiversity, due to the progressive urbanization of several forest bird species, associated with the expansion of urban green species and an increase of mature trees; on the other hand, the expansion of non-native species and the decline of iconic urban bird taxa. Through a deck of 88 cards, players take on the role of a geologist travelling from the Earth’s core to the planet’s surface. The game integrates scientific questions, educational insights, and hidden clues used to reconstruct the geographic coordinates of a mysterious final treasure. It introduces concepts related to Earth’s internal structure, deep geological processes, seismic waves, volcanism, and the materials that compose our planet, transforming geoscience learning into a narrative, interactive, and participatory experience. The paperback edition of the volume, including the playing cards, can be requested at: segreteria@socminpet.it

2026-06-12T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2026 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/328Elementi e materiali di diritto doganale. In addition to the necessary review of the cited regulatory sources and practice documents, certain sections of the volume have been expanded to include topics not present in previous editions, taking into account the most significant recent developments, as well as updating and supplementing the supplementary materials included with the volume. In light of the most recent changes in the international geopolitical landscape, foreign trade has been affected by unexpected and unpredictable situations of uncertainty, making it essential for those involved in international trade to gain an ever-greater understanding of customs dynamics and procedures, as well as the potential risks associated with measures regulating international trade.

Furthermore, at the EU level, the Commission’s proposed reform of the Customs Code envisions a digital and integrated environment for data management and risk analysis, within which the strategic role of trusted operators is further strengthened, as they are granted access to an ever-increasing range of simplifications.

2026-06-09T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2026 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/316MILANO 1946. On that day, Italian women were called to vote for the first time, actively participating in the choice between Monarchy and Republic and in the election of the Constituent Assembly. It is a selection of previously unpublished images, collected from Milanese archives and libraries and accompanied by historical texts, on the referendum that marked the beginning of republican democracy and ended the cycle of fascism and the Savoy monarchy. It engages citizenship not as a fixed category, but as a set of institutional frameworks, practices and narratives, exploring how sharing in the political community was articulated and experienced. The volume pursues both a vertical perspective with reference to the development of the concept of citizenship and a horizontal perspective through a comparative investigation of the notion of politeia in Greek cities and federal states. The aim is to bring into the discourse different strands of scholarship through the combined use of literary and epigraphic evidence and foster a multifaceted reconstruction of civic practices across regions and time, tracing long-term developments as well as institutional diversity. Within this framework, the essays engage with fundamental questions of inclusion, exclusion, and political belonging. This work presents the main aspects of these topics with a didactic and educational goal. The notion of computability is related to the existence of an algorithm to determine the values of a function or to solve a problem. In this context it is also relevant the study of problems and functions that do not admit algorithms. On the other hand, computational complexity concerns the analysis of the resources (usually time and space) required by an algorithm to solve a given problem or compute a certain function. These topics are considered at the basis of a university curriculum in Computer Science or in Mathematics, and this presentation is devoted in particular to the students of scientific degree programs.
2026-05-11T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2026 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/232ARTCHAE. Interaction and perception across physical distance today underpin both everyday media—such as mobile phones and teleconferencing platforms—and simulation-based media, including immersive and extended realities, which consistently incorporate a live component. ARTCHAE traces the roots of these processes to the electronic arts from the 1960s to the early 1980s—video art, installation art, and sound art—where mediated presence first became a site of experimentation, while simultaneity, embodied interaction, and self-recognition were already challenged. Combining analyses of media artworks by leading international scholars with interviews of prominent artists and curators, ARTCHAE proposes an ar(t)chaeology: a genealogical inquiry into telepresence grounded in the early insights of artists, particularly overlooked women, who explored the ways tele-media reconfigured private and public spaces, the mediation of the Self, and collective participation.
2026-04-02T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2026 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/311La persona del lavoratore. The writings are accompanied by draft laws presented by Carlo Smuraglia aimed at ensuring respect for the dignity of the working person, such as those on sexual harassment, the protection of atypical jobs and the promotion of work for prisoners, as well as the fact-finding investigation into the implementation of Law No. 125/1991 on gender equality in the workplace.

2026-03-26T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2026 Milano University Presshttps://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/226Oltre l’altrove. The collected contributions highlight the cross-fertilization of more or less institutionalized modes of storytelling, generating new expressive frontiers capable of capturing the complexity of the present. The volume is structured in three sections that investigate boundary-crossing as the overcoming of disciplinary, literary, and geographical demarcations, as well as the distinction between past and present and the presumed finiteness of identity. Migration is addressed at geographical, socio-political, and identity levels, while the act of mapping is redefined as an intimate practice that endows spaces and tropes with symbolic and introspective depth. Boundary-crossing ultimately extends to the evolution of literary genres and to intertextual journeys.
2026-03-25T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2026 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/310Il lavoro nella Costituzione e nello Statuto dei lavoratori2026-02-12T11:53:50+01:00Carlo Smuraglia
This volume contains a collection of essays that revisit the themes of labour in the Constitution and the Workers' Statute. Young female workers looking for jobs, wives trapped in unhappy marriages, girls seduced and abandoned, clandestine relationships, unspoken violence, denied motherhood, nuns torn by doubt and the desire for independence. Through the study of film subjects, especially those that were never made, this volume explores a territory in which the female figure becomes the privileged place for staging the contradictions of 20th-century Italy. Between digital archives, search engines, and artificial intelligence systems, the past risks remaining permanently accessible, shaping individual biographies and redefining the boundaries between memory, identity, and personal freedom.

This volume approaches the right to be forgotten not as a single, unitary right, but as a constellation of safeguards: from personal data protection to human dignity, from the right to health to identity and cultural concerns, as well as the challenges posed by the persistence of digital traces and the functioning of machine-learning systems. Adopting an interdisciplinary framework that brings together law, semiotics, and computer science, the volume investigates the multiple dimensions of oblivion in contemporary society.

At its core lies the increasingly complex and problematic interplay between technology and law, whereby large-scale information-processing technologies challenge legal frameworks to reassess foundational concepts such as time, responsibility, and erasure. In this context, oblivion emerges as a normative issue requiring a careful balance between individual and collective interests.

The result is a timely and incisive contribution: in the era of permanent memory, oblivion does not merely entail the deletion of the past, but rather the capacity to govern the circulation of information, safeguard personal identity, and ensure the effective realization of second chances.

This volume addresses a central issue for legal scholars, data professionals, and all those seeking to understand how technology and fundamental rights are reshaping our relationship with time and memory.
2026-02-26T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2026 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/283Osservatorio sull’Equità di Genere della Leadership in Sanità. Science and art, word and thought, heart and intellect, body and mind, author and reader, past and present enter into dialogue, opening original and innovative pathways for exploring the most intimate depths of human nature.

2026-01-19T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2026 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/245Per i 150 anni degli ordini forensi. The contributions collected in the volume trace the evolution of bar associations through the various regulatory frameworks from Italian unification to the present, and address several recurring themes in the history of the legal profession, such as gender equality, education and access to the profession, disciplinary authority, and legal ethics, which have a significant impact on the role and functioning of the associations. What emerges is a shared reflection on the role of the legal profession within the legal system and on the challenges it must confront in order to adapt to increasingly complex contexts while preserving its core identity.
2025-12-22T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2025 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/271Il ripristino ecologico tra scienza, politica e società. It retraces nine symbolic sites in the city linked to mafia violence, through a pathway that combines scholarly rigor, narrative engagement, and civic participation. Both the podcast and the resulting book aim to contribute to the construction of a shared public memory, enhancing the university’s role in the prevention and fight against organised crime, and in promoting a culture shaped by critical reflection on the relationship between history, memory, and civic commitment.
2025-10-27T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2025 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/243International Tax Fall on Tax Sustainability and Justice. 1923-2023: 100 Years of the League of Nations Report on Double Taxation2025-03-21T12:30:12+01:00Giuseppe MarinoReuven Avi-YonahPeter EssersBaker PhilipLuìs Edoardo SchoueriGuglielmo MaistoRaffaele RussoLuisa ScarcellaMichael LennardPierpaolo Rossi-Maccanico
This volume collects the lectures delivered during the seminar series “International Tax Fall on Tax Sustainability and Justice”, held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Milan in Fall 2023, on the centenary of the League of Nations’ Report on Double Taxation (1923–2023). La censura cinematografica in Italia (1944-1961). Una storia istituzionale2025-02-19T13:54:56+01:00Angelo Pietro Desole
Between the end of World War II and the economic boom, cinema in Italy was at the center of numerous negotiating practices, ranging from the protection of morality to the maintenance of public order; from the need to financially support a struggling industry to the development of new international relations; from the influence of the Vatican to the creation of fragile political alliances. The essay reconstructs how film censorship positioned itself at the crossroads of all these concerns. Through the study of the censorship archive files and parliamentary records, the book offers a reading that seeks to overcome from the traditional interpretation of censorship as a merely repressive tool, proposing instead a model of culture of negotiation that was able to guide the country through one of the most difficult periods in its history.
2025-09-04T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2025 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/246Filiations of the Negative 2025-05-09T14:42:19+02:00Francesco Adriano Clerici
Expanding the theoretical framework developed by André Green over more than four decades of research, this book offers a new inquiry into the Work of the Negative in the late writings of Franz Kafka (1883–1924) and Paul Celan (1920–1970). The study follows the thread of the Greenian concept of the incréable, a figure of the Negative expressing a tension toward a lost and severed origin, one that can never be reconstituted or created, but only represented otherwise through writing. In doing so, the book explores the function of absence and of the limit in the creative process. In this light, Kafka’s and Celan’s writings emerge not only as works on, and at the limits of representation. Through the creative process, the authors persistently interrogate the loss of origins, the question of writing, and the death drive at the heart of culture and civilization.
2025-08-06T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2025 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/216I conti col Novecento. But instead of dealing with the issue in general, it focuses on a specific issue, the one that arose at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, with recognizable anticipations already in the previous decade and even more impressive fallout in the following decades. This historical and political entrenchment is the topic of the first part of the book. Which revolves around two closely associated questions. First, and foremost: what can explain the emergence of a new sensibility for “mass violence” (past and present) starting in the 1980s and 1990s - but with significant and, arguably, decisive precedents already in the previous decade? And what made this rewriting of the memory of the past and this growing sensitivity to the mass violence of the present take the characteristic form they have taken, structuring themselves around the three typical subjectivities of victim, perpetrator and savior? Instead, the second part of the volume turns to some historical cases of this post-twentieth-century reworking of the recognition and denial of mass violence, different from each other not only in historical location but also in the ways in which they rethink the past.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2025 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/215Law in the Age of Digital Technologies2024-12-17T10:23:55+01:00Francesca C. Criminal sanctions continue to play a central role—just as they did then—in safeguarding the fundamental rights of individuals against the most serious forms of exploitation and violations of the dignity and physical integrity of workers.
However, their purpose is never solely repressive: it is primarily in the realm of prevention—through the most effective tools for preventing the commission of crimes rather than punishing their consequences—that criminal law performs its main function.
Hence, Carlo Smuraglia's effort—highly relevant today—to shift the focus toward a broader system of protections, including civil and administrative sanctions, a strong recognition of self-protection rights, an adequate system of oversight, disqualification-type sanctions, and judicial oversight mechanisms.
2025-06-05T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2025 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/224Comunicazione biomedica e pandemie. The research involves visual case studies, along with the exam of textual and ceremonial sources, in order to enlighten the “iconographic dialogues” and the “figurative strategies” the two protagonists carry out jointly for the defense of the empire. The sword is the cornerstone of the study. This is considered not as a weapon but both as an imperial insignia and as a symbol of the aid bestowed by the archangel, and then extended to the subjects. The book is structured in three parts. The first one concerns the emperor, the second one the Archangel Michael, whereas the third part shows the two figures acting together.
2025-04-01T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2025 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/24180 Luoghi per 80 anni di Libertà2025-03-13T13:40:57+01:00Municipality of MilanUniversity of MilanDepartment of Historical Studies "Federico Chabod"
This map of the places of the Resistance and Liberation in Milan was created with the aim of restoring an overall vision of the anti-fascist struggle and
of the violence perpetrated by the Nazi-Fascist occupation and total war between July 1943 and April 1945.
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation, 80 places have been symbolically identified, divided into seven categories:
- REPUBBLICA SOCIALE ITALIANA
- GERMANY
- BOMBINGS
- PERSECUTION AND DEPORTATIONS
- REPRESENTATIONS
- RESISTANCE AND PARTISANS
- INSURRECTION
In the selection, priority was given to places that conveyed the collective dimension of the events and their impact on the city.
The map, in its pdf and interactive versions, is therefore proposed as an accessible orientation tool, capable of connecting the past to the present and making it clear how the city still bears innumerable signs of the events that led to the Liberation from Nazi-Fascism and the birth of a free and democratic Italy.

Project managers:

Scientific Direction
Daniela Saresella, Paolo Zanini, Luca Gibillini

Institutional direction
Filippo Barberis, Massimo Bianchi, Andrea Borsani, Silvia Romani

Curatorship
Alina Binaghi, Stefano Latino, Marco Rota, Marco Vasaturo

Scientific Board
Massimo Baioni, Claudia Baldoli, David Bernardini, Barbara Bracco, Marco Cuzzi, Nicola Del Corno, Emanuele Edallo, Luca Gibillini, Fabio Guidali, Jacopo Perazzoli, Irene Piazzoni, Daniela Saresella, Emanuela Scarpellini, Giovanni Scirocco, Federico Carlo Simonelli, Marco Soresina, Paolo Zanini

For the realisation of the map we thank
SIT and Toponymy Unit, Directorate for Technological and Digital Innovation of the Municipality of Milan
Citadel of Archives
Ferruccio Parri National Institute
Milan Civic Photographic Archive
ANPI
Memory of Deportation Foundation
Milan Municipality

Editorial project
Milano University Press
Ledizioni. The ambition is also to make the problem of safeguarding domestic breeds known to a wider and more general audience of curious and passionate.
2025-01-14T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2025 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/180Digital transition and the European industrial policy2024-04-24T11:14:52+02:00Maria Letizia GiorgettiLorenzo ZiruliaCarmela CappelliCarolina CastagnettiStefano De SantisFrancesca Di IorioRoberto MonducciAlessandro FaramondiMirko BragagnoloTiziana ValloneCarlo Alberto Carnevale MaffèMaria FazioAdriana LottiMarco BerlinguerMassimo FlorioFrancesco BonfiglioMaria Pia Abbracchio
Industrial policy has become central in the public debate after several years of neglect. Relying on contributors with different backgrounds, from academia to the public and private sectors, the book emphasizes two topics that are crucial to inform and motivate industrial policies in current times, expecially at the European level. The first part of the book touches several points related to global value chains, and how these are undergoing reorganizations due to factors related to digital transition. The second part of the book, instead, is dedicated to the role of infrastructures to store data for business, with a particular focus on cloud computing.
2024-12-06T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2024 Milano University Presshttps://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/206Bitter Earth. This work continues and develops the themes of his earlier work The Constitution and the System of Labor Law (Volume II of this series), drawing on constitutional principles to advance significant arguments. These arguments redefine, in contrast to the prevailing theories of the time, the consequences of involving the person in the execution of the employment relationship.

"There is no work without the men who work," writes Carlo Smuraglia. This fundamental assertion serves to reject the conceptions of the employment relationship then widely held, which were based on notions of supremacy or a personal bond between the parties. The involvement of the person in the employment relationship, therefore, does not translate into personal subjugation to another's will or a complete and total submission of the worker's person. Subordination is purely technical and functional.

It is particularly in the realm of consequences— especially regarding the delimitation and qualification of the parties' obligations —that Smuraglia's contribution exhibits its most original aspects. The guarantees for protecting human personality, safeguarding physical integrity, and above all, preserving moral dignity and personality, freedom of thought, and protection against any invasion of one's personal sphere, here rise to the level of true legal values. They are given concrete substance and are enshrined in specific contractual obligations.
2024-11-04T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2024 Milano University Presshttps://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/190Il comportamento concludente nel rapporto di lavoro2024-07-16T15:21:43+02:00Carlo Smuraglia
It is the second monograph by Carlo Smuraglia, published in 1963 by Giuffrè, and perhaps his least known work. Nonetheless, it remains to this day one of the very few studies dedicated to the topic and, despite the numerous major reforms that have changed the face of labor law in the years since its publication, it retains elements of relevance that cannot be overlooked even today. The fundamental thesis is that the existence of an agreement cannot be determined based on the presumption of acceptance of a particular treatment. From the receipt of a salary or a change in the relationship, writes Carlo Smuraglia, the only legal certainty that can be deduced is that of the receipt or application of the new working conditions. It is perhaps in terms of the demands for flexibility in job performance and the varied galaxy of forms of availability required of the worker that the issue of interpreting the worker's conclusive behavior seems to take on even more significance today. But the principles and hermeneutic criteria that Carlo Smuraglia had developed back in 1963 should today be reevaluated also in light of the erosion of job stability that occurred with the reforms of the dismissal regulations in 2012 and 2015.
2024-11-04T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2024 Milano University Presshttps://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/88Alle origini del libro d'arte contemporanea. Il laboratorio di Milano negli anni Trenta2022-04-08T15:07:39+02:00Viviana Pozzoli
During the 1930s, contemporary art gains significant critical and commercial success, even in Italy. The growing need to document and disseminate the new artistic culture meets the parallel growth of the publishing market, triggering a crucial exchange. Milan constitutes a key observatory of these developments, an extraordinary laboratory for the elaboration of forms, genres, and models that would mark the profile of the art book industry in the decades to come.

This work traces a map of contemporary art publishing in its dawning moment, between experimental tension and confrontation with the first mass society. Addressing the major issues of the publishing chain, the emerging critical literary genres, and the reproduction of images in relation to the typographic page, the study offers the reader a reflection of unprecedented historiographical approach accompanied by the extensive catalog of publications.

2024-10-14T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2024 Milano University Presshttps://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/153Privilegi librari ed edizioni privilegiate nella Repubblica di Venezia (1566-1603)2023-10-27T15:36:44+02:00Erika Squassina
This work provides the legal framework in which the Venetian book trade operated in the years 1566-1603, and is preceded by an equal one pertaining the years 1527-1565. The repertoire documents the systematic use that authors and printers made of the privilege system to ensure exclusivity in the economic exploitation of a work and thus protect their work and investments. The archival and bibliographical sources collected in this volume testify to the entrepreneurial strategies implemented by authors and printers to innovate and diversify editorial production to create products capable of competing on foreign markets. The repertoire also traces the role of the Venetian State in promoting and protecting the local book industry in a context characterized by continuous historical and political changes.

__________________________________________

Privilegi librari ed edizioni privilegiate nella Repubblica di Venezia (1527-1565)

__________________________________________
2024-10-08T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2024 Milano University Presshttps://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/163Libri e rose: le donne nell’editoria italiana degli anni Settanta2023-12-11T15:01:17+01:00Roberta CesanaIrene PiazzoniCinzia ScarpinoAnna FerrandoLaura AntoniettiAndrea RomanziMarta Sironi
The volume investigates the presence and role of women in Italian publishing in the contemporary age – a research field of recent development, especially if compared to literary studies, which have shed lights on women writers. Our new focus is the historical phase identified as the so-called "lungo Sessantotto" (mid 1960s to 1980s), when a paradigm shift took place and women started to be involved more widely and more actively in the world of books and publishing. The collected essays address different aspects of such phenomenon and are concerned with the rediscovery of different women figures and cultural enterprises. The aim of the book is to write a new a chapter in the history of Twentieth Century Italy in which female authorship and intellectual identity of women get finally acknowledged as crucially relevant for a better understanding of the entire cultural system in Italy at the time.
2024-09-09T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2024 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/177Diplomatics: the science of reading medieval documents. The objects of study for the discipline are: public and private documents, their external and internal characteristics, language, chronology, production, transmission, registration, modern editions. This handbook fills a significant gap in Diplomatic studies because it finally provides the English-speaking public with an opportunity to learn about the fascinating world of medieval documentation.
2024-09-09T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2024 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/133Research Paths in the Ukulele2023-04-17T11:00:43+02:00Giovanni CestinoGiovanni Albini
This book is the result of the First Ukulele International Conference (UIC 2021) – Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Performance, Composition, and Organology (December 3-4, 2021), the first academic event ever dedicated to the instrument. The edited volume collects selected essays and contributions by authors with different (or with multiple) professional backgrounds: researchers in the ukulele’s cultural history, musicologists with scholarship in performance and instrumentality issues, composers (or composer-performers) of music for ukulele, performers engaged in scholarly research and in popularizing the instrument, and professionals involved in the technological innovation of the instrument. The purpose of this book is to provide a sample of possible questions related to the instrument, with the awareness that many others may only be fully formulated in future research. In addition to the general tenet of interdisciplinarity—crucial for addressing an instrument endowed with such high and intrinsic "plasticity"—the book presents a further challenge: extending research on the ukulele to research with the ukulele, namely understanding it as an instrument (in a more etymological sense), a scientific tool to investigate different topics in music-making.
2024-07-16T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2024 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/182Risk Assessment and Communication in Food Safety. The vulnerability of the fruit crops industry to the modification of agro-climatic conditions depends on both the expected regional climate extremes and the sectors’ adaptation ability. For their perennial status, fruit tree crops are particularly exposed to environmental extremes, i.e. yield and quality of fruit production are strongly affected by genotype x environment interactions. The overall aims of this book, other than presenting an overview of the main fruit crops industry in the Mediterranean basin (Almond, Apricot, Citrus spp., Grape, Olive, Peach), are: i) describing the most interesting features of their cultivation (state of the art), ii) enlighting the possible solutions in order to tackle the negative impacts of climatic extremes on the industry, iii) reporting the main findings of the ‘Freeclimb’ international project (https://primafreeclimb.com/) funded in the framework of PRIMA, a EU initiative meant to foster MB cooperation (https://prima-med.org/).
2024-05-22T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2024 Milano University Presshttps://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/159Tra storia e politica. The chapters reproduce, with additional elaborations, the papers presented at the international workshop that gives the volume its title, held at the University of Milan on 16 September 2022. The underlying question is whether and to what extent, in the face of unsatisfactory and unreasonable political choices on the balance between the different interests at stake, resorting to national and supernational courts represents a valid alternative for a more sustainable future. The relevant contexts covered by the book include, for instance, industrial development, exploitation of natural resources, agricultural production, manufacturing techniques, as well as policies on energy, public and private transport, and urban development. The book is composed of three parts, each one addressing, from multiple perspectives, a specific category of judicial remedies in a certain area of legal studies: I) international human rights law; II) private international law and international trade law; II) domestic and international criminal law.

2024-05-08T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2024 Milano University Presshttps://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/178Carlo Smuraglia. La vita e le opere2024-03-20T16:39:45+01:00Olivia Bonardi
This is the first of the multi-volume editorial work Carlo Smuraglia: Scritti, discorsi e atti istituzionali, published in fifteen volumes, which aims to make Carlo Smuraglia's work again accessible to the public once it is nowadays scarcely known for many reasons and published mostly in journals and volumes out-of-commerce or no longer available. In this volume, his autobiography “Con la Costituzione nel cuore. Conversazioni su storia, memoria e politica”, written with Francesco Campobello, is presented and republished. Its title best summarises the beacon whose radiance brightened his long scientific and political career and lifetime, which is the defence and implementation of the Constitution. Through its reading, readers have the gate opened to many relevant facts that have dramatically characterised the history of our country, which can be retraced and decoded, always taking into account the author's will to safeguard democratic institutions. The volume also collects a series of recollections and essays by scholars of “different genres and generations” that illustrate the topical profiles of Carlo Smuraglia's thought.

The volume collects contributions by: Amos Andreoni, Gaetano Azzariti, Marzia Barbera, Alessandro Bellavista, Olivia Bonardi, Franca Borgogelli, Piera Campanella, Giancarlo Caselli, Nando dalla Chiesa, Pietro Ichino, Lucio Motta, Gianfranco Pagliarulo, Corrado Stajano, Paolo Tomassetti and Ettore Zanoni and the Declaration of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella on the occasion of Carlo Smuraglia's death.
2024-04-29T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2024 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/171La Costituzione e il sistema del diritto del lavoro. Lineamenti di una teoria generale2024-01-31T13:39:03+01:00Carlo Smuraglia
The volume was published in 1958, at a time when there was still debate about the legal significance of the Constitution and when labor was still regulated by corporatist norms. The work offers a systematic reinterpretation of labor law in light of constitutional principles. The relevance of the individual, the principle of substantive equality enshrined in Article 3(II) of the Constitution, and the right to work are at the foundation of recognizing a society divided by economic and social differences, which presupposes a rebalancing through a system of guarantees aimed at balancing entrepreneurial economic power with the social and political primacy of labor forces. It is in light of the fundamental principles of the Constitution that the rights to work, to adequate compensation, to social security, and to trade union freedom become non-negotiable rights of the individual, immediately effective even in relations between private parties. And it is always on the basis of principles of democracy and freedom that the rights of collective autonomy are defined in the essay. Despite the more than sixty years filled with history and changes that separate us from this first monograph by Carlo Smuraglia, the principles affirmed therein remain at the foundations of the current labor regulatory system and, at the same time, indicate a path towards the realization of constitutional principles that has never lost relevance.
2024-04-29T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2024 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/173Exploring vaccination debates through corpus-assisted discourse analysis: The MMR vaccine debate and its relevance to the covid-19 pandemic 2024-02-08T16:04:06+01:00Carlotta Fiammenghi
This volume explores the discursive construction of debates around the topic of vaccination, with a particular focus on the hypothesis of a link between the MMR vaccine and autism. The research analyses the coverage of the debate in the British press up to 2019, through the tools of corpus-assisted discourse analysis and in light of the so-called “post-truth era”. The analysis focuses on the construction of medico-scientific debates in the media, in particular on issues of newsworthiness and polyphony. The discursive representation of evidence and the (de)legitimation strategies of social actors interacting in the debate are then explored. A large part of the volume is also devoted to the topic of argumentative narratives and the evidential value of personal experience. Each chapter of the monograph illustrates a connection between these aspects of the MMR vaccine controversy and the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
2024-04-23T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2024 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/165Linguistica dei corpora e linguistica tedesca. In university teaching theory and practice, the connections are in fact mainly binary, between corpus linguistics and German linguistics, between German linguistics and DaF and between corpus linguistics and DaF. On the contrary, the present volume aims at bringing out the interconnections among all three disciplines; the use of empirical approaches intended to foster the development of linguistic and crosslinguistic awareness will play a central role. The focus of the volume is on morphology and syntax, two linguistic domains that are traditionally considered central to grammar and that are well suited to be understood and analysed by means of corpus linguistics corpus linguistics. A Postsecular Reading of the Indian English Novelistic Tradition2023-08-29T11:59:24+02:00Alessandro Vescovi
In this book, the term “postsecular” does not denote a rejection of secularism; rather, it parallels the “post” in “post-modern” or “post-structuralist.” Vescovi argues that secularism has helped Indian fiction to reach an international audience but, at the same time, has forestalled the recognition of Hindu elements covertly woven into the narrative fabric of several modern Indian classics. His close reading is an attempt at tracing traditional elements, such as plot patterns, naming, ethics in otherwise secular narratives, countering the hegemony of rationalistic interpretive paradigms often employed by postcolonial criticism.
2024-01-19T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2024 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/150Il mercato dei non fungible tokens tra arte, moda e gamification2023-10-02T15:17:22+02:00Allegra CanepaAlice Barale Benedetta Bonfanti Manlio Frigo Roberto Iaia Paolo Martini Maddalena Mazzocut-mis Ugo MinneciLorenzo Savastano Silvia SegnaliniAndrea Scanziani Silvia Stabile Andrea Visconti Romana AndòSimone Pelizzola
The book collects contributions from computer scientists, jurists, philosophers, and sociologists capable of photographing the multidisciplinary approach required to understand NFTs completely and is divided into two sections.

The first is dedicated to introducing the IT concepts necessary to understand the functioning of NFTs and to delve into the market dynamics from a legal perspective, starting from the economic sustainability and the techniques used to influence prices. Specific ones, such as the possibility of giving the NFTs as collateral or implementing their requisition, are added to these aspects.

The second section examines the nature and use of artistic and fashion NFTs and their possible use in the Metaverse. The section opens with a philosophical reflection on the evolution of the very concept of a work of art and an artist in light of the development of NFTs. Then, it focuses on the legal and sociological aspects.
2024-01-18T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2024 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/115A Turning World2023-08-28T15:53:56+02:00Claudia LambrugoPatrizia PiacentiniAlessio Delli CastelliAgnese VaccaMarta RapiVictoria SabetaiAgnese LojaconoLuca Dal MonteGiovanni ColzaniAndrea ScalaEdoardo BuroniMario PiottiChiara TorreGuglielmo BarucciOriol Vaz-Romero TruebaLaura NeriElio NenciJean-Pierre RossieVéronique Dasen
This volume presents the results of a research project carried out by a team at the University of Milan. Since meeting almost 'for fun' in 2009, this team has grown over the years, and has now a place in international research on the value of playful activities and artifacts.

More precisely, this publication is associated with the LALLACT project (Lexicon of Ancient Ludonims, Ludic Activities, and Cultural Tradition), which is dedicated to creating a digital Lexicon of games, starting with the spinning top and blind man's buff. The collected essays represent the outcome of a fruitful interdisciplinary discussion on these two games.

More specifically, the miscellaneous volume proposed here is linked to the LALLACT project - Lexicon of Ancient Ludonims project. Ludic Activities and Cultural Tradition, whose ambitious goal is the creation of a prototype of a digital Lexicon of the game, starting from two 'pilot' voices, respectively the game of the spinning top and blind man's buff. The collected essays constitute the outcome, precious and at times unexpected, of a fruitful multidisciplinary discussion on the topics indicated.
2023-12-14T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2023 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/134Giacomo Verde installazioni, tv interattive, net art, tecnoteatro (1992-2002)2023-06-30T12:32:40+02:00Anna Maria Monteverdi
Giacomo Verde (Cimitile 1956-Lucca 2020), video artist and techno performer, has dedicated his entire life to the creation of a social and participatory art that directly engages the audience in the creative process, with the use of analogue, digital and web technologies. Verde was a tireless experimenter with new technologies, favouring the use of a poor technology, reinvented in relation to changing expressive needs. The present book follows, just over a year later, the previous text entitled Giacomo Verde. Attraversamenti tra teatro e video (1986-1992), also published by Milano University Press. The research is continued in this volume, which aims to show the artist's work in the period 1993-2003 through preparatory materials for interactive performances and installations that highlight the importance of drawing as a substantial medium in Verde's technological creative process. the volume is preceded by an equal publication entitled Giacomo Verde. In light of the differences still existing, the contributions address some of the main issues related to women’s access to the advocacy and the judiciary, from historical and current points of view, within the broader framework of the implementation of the constitutional principle of equality. It aims at promoting a culture of equality, i.e. a culture capable of moving not only on the level of homogeneity, but also on the level of diversity, enhancing the characteristics of each person-professional, in a pluralistic and inclusive perspective.
2023-10-13T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2023 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/141AMALPI TREK - Dal Maloja al Gottardo2023-08-29T13:46:22+02:00Tiziana ApuaniCristian Scapozza
AMALPI Trek is a cross-border geotouristic trail that, from the Maloja Pass to the Gotthard region, leads along ancient and new routes, with their natural and anthropic peculiarities (waterfalls, villages), historical-archaeological (such as the excavations in Piuro) and gastronomic (such as foods prepared in soapstone pots, “lavecc”), to discover the processes that drastically change the Alpine territory: the great landslides of the past, present and future.<span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335551550":6,"335551620":6,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}">

The guidebook allows anyone to enjoy in another way the beauty of the crossed valleys, perhaps walking only short distances, or reaching them by other transportation means (preferably public or zero emissions), relying on interpretations provided by scholars, to understand the landscape evolution and the history of landslides. L’istruzione terziaria professionalizzante in Italia e in Europa 2023-09-08T10:58:41+02:00Matteo Turri
Higher technical institutes – known in Italy as ITSs (Istituti tecnici superiori) initially, and ITS Academies since 2022 – were ideated 15 years ago to give technical and vocational school graduates more qualified education and work perspectives, with a view to help the Italian economy grow in terms of innovation. ITSs reflect a commitment to make up for the country’s lack of tertiary professional education, which is a major factor in Italy’s ranking among the countries with the lowest ratio of tertiary graduates in Europe. The National Recovery and Resilience Plan itself has allocated remarkable resources to strengthen these institutes.

This Report traces the difficult evolution of ITSs from 2007 to the present, investigates what their future developments may be, and sheds a light on their limits – in terms of size, diffusion and ability to attract students – by comparing them with tertiary professional education models currently in place in France, Germany, Spain and Switzerland.
2023-10-05T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2023 The Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/114 Gymnastēs. Pugilato tra metodologia e filosofia2023-09-01T14:17:55+02:00Renato De Donato
This work thoroughly explores the world of boxing from an interdisciplinary perspective. Building upon the text of "gymnasticus" written by the rhetorician Lucius Flavius Philostratus, the author develops an innovative methodological hypothesis, involving the disciplines of philosophy, history, and cognitive and motor sciences. Through a philosophical analysis of contemporary authors such as Hadot, Foucault, and Deleuze, the author incorporates their insights and applies them to the current context of sports science. They are “notes”, sometimes very detailed, which aim to be first useful for making the fundamental elements of thermodynamics one’s own. This book is based on the path I have designed up for teaching Thermodynamics for the Degree Course in Physics at the University of Milan. A path undertaken first and foremost by me, as the first and last student, to answer the questions that arise when entering into the study of thermodynamics. Sometimes these are even curious questions, but never trivial ones, which allow those who look carefully to see the world around us with new eyes and which, I hope, will ultimately appears as a new and wonderful world!

2023-08-29T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2023 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/93I popoli indigeni e i loro diritti in America Latina. The research is conducted on a specific corpus of 157 short stories and novels published in Italy between 1990 and 2020, written by 91 authors from 34 different countries. Over 500 words have been extracted and collected in a glossary: the abundance of graphic variants, the grammatical class adopted in Italian, the languages of origin (at least 30 ascertainable) and the most frequent semantic fields are detected. The diffusion of these migrant words is also considered as a sign of a possible lexical renewal due to the contact between Italian and migrant languages.

2023-06-20T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2023 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/81Protocollo Q² (Q QUADRO): Integrare Quantità e Qualità nella valutazione neuro e psicomotoria2023-06-29T16:43:46+02:00Valeria Flori
The text proposes, on the basis of recent theoretical reference and models, a new tool for assessing the neuro and psychomotor development of the child.
It’s useful for the clinician to integrate quantitative and static elements with qualitative and dynamic elements, in order to outline a specific profile of the patient’s functioning.
It can support the rehabilitation team in the operational phase of rehabilitation, it is useful in the various phases of rehabilitation management and/or in research protocols applied to rehabilitation.
At last the project also offers a detailed and specific description of the fundamental contents of the profession of the developmental neuro and psychomotor Therapist and it is useful at the educational level, for the training of future Therapists.
2023-06-07T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2023 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/105L' artefice nel pensiero francescano2023-06-27T14:11:39+02:00Amalia Salvestrini
The figure of the maker (artifex) in the Franciscan thought is indicative of a reflection around poietic making often developed through the analogy between divine creation and human production.

The monograph, after an initial part dedicated to the genesis of the idea of the artifex in scriptural, philosophical and rhetorical sources, explores the philosophical constitution of the idea of the maker in the thought of four Friars Minor: Bonaventure of Bagnoregio, Peter of John Olivi, John Duns Scotus and William of Ockham. This area, a multi-ethnic neighborhood in the periphery of the ‘City of the Rich’, is marginal in the Greater Milan. As a response to this state of crisis, relying on a solid territorial network of third sector entities, “La terra che non c’è” – The Unexisting Land, – has used a series of abandoned, underused or inactive lands, to produce fresh food, with the scientific coordination of the Department DISAA – University of Milan. By applying soilless cultivation tecniques, it has created self-built vegetable gardens, managed with the inhabitants of the neihbourhood. “La Terra che non c’è” - The Unexisting Land has therefore built an innovative urban horticultural community, made up of young students, voluteers, the elderly, the disabled, which donates its products to those who are socially in need, to the invisible people of the neighborhood, thus creating a supportive circular community.
2023-04-04T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2023 Authors, Milano University Presshttps://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/113Elementi e materiali di diritto doganale2023-05-25T11:19:03+02:00Luca Moriconi
The book was created as a study and support tool for the teaching and practical-laboratory activities of the three-year degree course in International Sciences and European Institutions (EIS) at the Department of International, Legal and Historical-Political Studies of the University of Milan and aims to offer a systematic overview of customs regulations, as a specific technical aspect within the broader context of the discipline of international trade.
One of the main objectives is to make students, and all those who approach customs matters, perceive the absolute concreteness of the same, dwelling on the illustration of the main institutes, procedures and technical elements that form the basis of customs assessment.
As a complement, the regulatory framework governing trade restrictions is then presented, with particular reference to the control of exports of dual goods, highlighting the delicate aspect of the related penalties and the strategic importance of a conscious and adequate approach to the discipline on the subject.
From the overall picture, it clearly emerges how compliance in customs matters today represents a decisive factor in the qualification of trustworthy economic subjects, which is becoming increasingly important in the scenario of international trade relations.
A number of in-depth materials are recalled and integrated in the text, to allow a more detailed analysis of specific aspects relating to the topics covered.
2023-03-21T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2023 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/112Matematica per il corso di Economia e Management2023-05-02T09:33:24+02:00Giovanni Puccetti
This book has been written for the 80-hour course in Mathematics for the Bachelor's Degree in Economics & Management at the University of Milan. Nascita della cosmologia moderna2023-04-11T09:26:55+02:00Luciano MandelliMarco GiammarchiLino Miramonti
The homo sapiens has always been fascinated by the spectacle of the starry sky, leading him to ask himself deep questions: what is above us? Is the Universe eternal or was it born, and how, in a remote time? Is it finite or infinite? What is its future? Are we alone or are there other planets, other worlds?

To answer to these questions, at least in part, and with the conviction that it is the duty of men of science to transmit to society the news of leading-edge knowledge, we have written this book. Here we tell, with simplicity but with rigor, how in the last century, discovery after discovery, the pattern of the Universe that men had conceived in the past has fallen apart and a different, fascinating and even disturbing picture has gradually emerged.

But this story is not just a story of intellect and reason; it is also a story of feelings. It is no accident that the authors of this book, experts in particle physics and astroparticle physics, have been seized by an authentic passion for these cosmological themes, for that extraordinary mystery that encloses the starry sky.
2023-02-07T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2023 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/91Guardiani del Nord. La prospettiva di una docente giusinternazionalista counselor2023-03-22T08:46:32+01:00Angela M. G. Lupone
The book is a contribution, on one side, to the ongoing reflexion and sharing of best practices on student centred teaching and cooperative learning in higher education and, on the other and widely speaking, on role management or effective leadership models in the pedagogical and organisational University context. It addresses teachers from all the disciplines and students. Based on, and moving from, the author’s personal experience as an international law scholar, this work suggests different possible perspectives in disclosing disciplinary literacy, eg the legal one, through the lens of relational competencies. The fil rouge across the book is role awareness, i.e. the ability to understand the space of the role (as well as sovereignty in international relations) as an area to fill and, if pertaining to others, as a zone to respect. Nevertheless, within this perspective and setting as starting point the fact that the ultimate task of every teacher, and university professor, is blending all the forms of knowledge in the service of effective instruction, thus aiming at accompanying classes not only in assimilating (international law) knowledge, but also competencies, the author explores if an experience-based relational training of teachers can have a transformative and improving effect on the teaching methodology, within an approach that seeks to change the focus from teaching to learning. In the systemic frame and linked to the field of international law and relations, the space of the role overlaps with the notion of sovereignty, as well as with the nature of the International Community as an interdependent, original, necessary and (formally) equal society. Interpersonal and international relations thus seem to be traced back to a common system.
2022-12-23T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2022 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/85La Abracadabra. What effect do words have on the brain?

This volume addresses in a simple way the theme of the healing power of words both from the point of view of the history of religions, mythology and ethology and from a neuroscientific point of view. A small computer genius who grew up in a Chicago suburb, he met, as a teenager, scholars of the calibre of Tim Berners-Lee and Lawrence Lessig and worked with them to build the computer architectures, and licences, of the future. In a radical change of life, he will then decide to devote himself to political and technological activism; in the meantime, his talented colleagues are taking advantage of the Silicon Valley wave to get rich. Instead, he will devote his energies, and talent, to fight for open access, secure communications, anonymity, and freeing content and culture from the confines, and paywalls, of big databases. At some point, however, the US government will target him and, slowly, the powerful American judicial machine will crush him. His teaching, his theories, his passion are still today, ten years after his death, an example for many users, hackers and citizens of the information society.
2022-11-08T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2022 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/87Manilio e il suo catalogo delle costellazioni: Astronomica 1, 255-455. Its purpose is to extend the present knowledge about cognitive, musical, and pedagogical aspects of the subject, pointing out problematic issues and solutions significant for the young musicians' music performance education. The main study profile, which differentiates it from very few existing international studies on the subject, arises from the particular situation of the Latin countries (to which some other Latin American countries must be added) that adopted, starting from XIX century, the syllabic designation of notes, abandoning the alphabetic one. The aim of the research was to clarify a) the extent to which the outlined situation is widespread in Italian and European instrumental teaching, b) what are the prevailing opinions about it, and c) whether different perspectives can be found based on instrumental families or educational schools.
2022-10-04T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2022 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/97Tabellio, Notarius, Notaio: quale funzione? After a first denial and a forced assimilation, the indigenous element was integrated into the institutions until it became central to the construction of an alternative constitutionalism to the Western model. The dissertation outlines three Latin American constitutional cycles. For each constitutional cycle, the common lines and the differences with Western constitutionalism are analysed, referring to the importance attributed to the indigenous element, since to a detailed analysis of intercultural and multinational constitutionalism of the 2009 Bolivian constitution. The indigenous element is fundamental because it becomes a source of national law, thus giving rise to a plural juridical model that starts from the community, and the traditional and ancestral culture of the indigenous people. It also challenges the Western individual constitutionalism, only founded on the supremacy of human rights.
2022-06-30T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2022 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/67Privilegi librari ed edizioni privilegiate nella Repubblica di Venezia (1527-1565)2023-03-17T09:53:59+01:00Erika Squassina
This work provides the legal framework in which the Venetian book trade operated in the years 1527-1565, and it is followed by an equal one pertaining the years 1566-1603. The archival and bibliographic sources collected in this volume testify to the entrepreneurial strategies implemented by authors and printers to innovate and diversify publishing production in order to create products capable of competing on foreign markets. It is hoped that the collection, in Italian and in English, will be read and performed in theatres as well as gardens, schools, universities and community settings in Italy and abroad.

Supplementary translation texts

2021 Seminars

Live performance at the Brera Botanical Garden (Milan)
2022-03-18T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2022 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/73Proceedings of the COVid-19 Empirical Research (COVER) Conference2023-03-17T09:55:51+01:00Elia BiganzoliGiancarlo ManziAlessandra MichelettiFederica NicolussiSilvia SaliniCarlo FiorioNicola BellomoNisrine OutadaLuisa FerrariGiuseppe GerardiSimona BallabioMarianna FilandriSilvia PasquaMaria Letizia GiorgettiFrancesca Di IorioThomas GotzWolfgang BockRobert RockenfellerMoritz SchaferLaura IacovoneRon S. A team of experts in the field have produced an information platform based on an orderly and coordinated set of measured parameters. Each growth habit within a species is defined and discussed, terms are defined (glossary), objective tree growth data are presented, and reference cultivars are provided.
Illustrations represent a useful visual guide to each growth type. This monograph thus seeks not only to describe the main tree habits found in five important stone-fruit species but also to identify the morphological keys unlocking their characterization and, in the process, provide some suggestions for their practical exploitation.
2022-02-01T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2022 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/71Stai fermo un girone. It is dedicated to Inferno by Dante Alighieri, and to all humanities research focused on the Middle Ages.

To advance along the board, and to win the game, one must not only have a certain familiarity with cantos, characters, and themes of Dante’s Inferno, but must also be able to tackle different modes of enquiry for the texts used in university studies. In so doing, one can unlock a door through which to view Dante’s work, set against the backdrop of the Middle Ages, with its history, ideas, culture, questions raised, and answers given. This board game will help stimulate and further the understanding of secondary school students encountering Dante’s verses for the first time. It’s also a fun way for aficionados to relive and revisit a beloved writing. Thanks to its three levels of difficulty, the game is suitable for persons of all skill levels, from novices to veterans.

The print-cut-play format makes it easy for everyone to build their own set of cards, markers and board, and to immerse themselves in the world of Dante and his Inferno.
2021-12-20T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2021 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/61La caverna nel bosco2023-03-17T09:57:14+01:00Giulia LamianiMichela Maxia
The book is part of an action-research project (MinViTI) dedicated to the accompaniment and support of youngsters who have a family member hospitalized in ICU. The aim is to provide a practical clinical book which will serve as a guide for clinicians from all specialties involved in the management of COVID-19 patients. The authors share the extensive clinical experience gained in major hospitals in Lombardy, the first European region to face the COVID-19 emergency in 2020. All are recognized international experts in their respective fields and have been involved in the management of COVID-19 cases from the very beginning of the Italian SARS-CoV-2 outbreak. The text begins with a description of pathobiological and pathophysiological aspects related to the involvement of the nervous system, moving on to the discussion of the neurological complications observed in COVID-19 patients; these range from central to peripheral symptoms, and can occur in the acute or post-acute phases of the disease. Further topics are: neuropathology, seizures and EEG, neuroimaging, delirium, encephalomyelitis, stroke, psychopathology and psychiatry, neuropsychology and cognitive impairment, neuromuscu-lar disorders, and the impact of COVID-19 on other pre-existing neurological disorders. In addi-tion, the book will discuss the new developments in teleneurology approaches, which have been a direct response to the ongoing pandemic. Finally, the possible neurological complications of the COVID-19 vaccines and the neurological complications in children will be considered.
Each chapter will present a critical review of the existing literature concerning the specific subject matter, followed by practical clinical recommendations, as well as personal considerations based on the experience gained by each author during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Neurology of COVID-19" will be an original and innovative reference book for clinicians of all the specialties involved in the management of patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

________________________________________________

List of chapters

________________________________________________

2021-11-08T00:00:00+01:00Copyright (c) 2021 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/27MIDI.
Why the Political Ideologies of Modernity still Matter 2023-03-17T09:59:29+01:00Mauro Barisione
Contrary to the cliché that our age is post-ideological, this book contends that political ideologies are part of the logic itself of modernity and continue to permeate ’hyper-modern’ politics. Using a multitude of primary sources (texts) and data, the author identifies the ‘polar stars’ – guiding principles such as order, freedom and equality – around which ideological fields have developed, mainly in Europe, in recent centuries. In place of the too reductive concepts of ‘left’ and ‘right’, this book uses a different strategy to analyse the orientations of contemporary political movements, parties, policies and voters: it reconstructs the main ideological ‘matrices’ of modern politics in their historical origins and subsequent phases of radicalisation and hybridisation, which still continue, both among these political matrices and with ‘metapolitical’ ideologies like populism. In doing so, the book also propounds a broader theory that helps to interpret recent ideological trends as reflecting a distinctive ‘double movement’ of modernity: the continuous tension between liberalising pressures for greater individual rights and, vice versa, ’centripetal’ countermovements along either the matrix of order or that of socioeconomic equality.
2021-05-26T00:00:00+02:00Copyright (c) 2021 Author(s)https://libri.unimi.it/index.php/milanoup/catalog/book/41Le giardiniere. Francesca Orestano, Anna Rudelli and Anna Zappatini have explored the adventurous stories of these women gardeners: we still profit from their lessons, even if our gardening skills are limited to a geranium pot on our window sill.
