Synopsis

The aim of this paper is to explain more extensively the criteria which led me to the critical edition with commentary of Cariteo’s Endimion a la Luna, in particular discussing some historical and theoretical implications of the thesis demonstrated in the Introduction of the book. We have two sources of the text: a manuscript datable before 1494 and a print published in 1506. I chose the manuscript as basis for my edition, integrating it with four sonnets (which are missing in the codex due to incomplete transcription but are very im-portant for the “narrative” construction) taken from the print. This solution, apparently inconsistent, results in a collection of poems closer to the last will of the author and lets us see an architecture perceivable much better in this reconstructed form than in what we can read in the extant sources.
