Synopsis

This volume provides an in-depth examination of the local economic impact of universities, offering a structured taxonomy of indicators and methodologies for measuring and assessing this impact. Through a review of both academic and grey literature, it identifies and describes the main dimensions of economic impact — human capital, technology transfer, and territorial development — linking them to the core activities of universities (teaching, research, third mission). Consequently, this volume contributes to understanding how universities generate economic value in their territories, and how this value can be demonstrated and accounted for.
