Synopsis

The volume presents the results of interdisciplinary research conducted by the University of Milan within the PNRR CHANGES project. In 2024, researchers and theatre professionals collaborated on Julie in VR, an adaptation of Strindberg’s Miss Julie staged at Teatro Franco Parenti and later transformed into a 360° immersive video for virtual reality headsets. The first section examines the dramaturgy and staging of the performance, guiding readers into the creative process behind the direction, dramaturgical construction, and themes inspired by Strindberg’s text. The second explores, from both theoretical and practical perspectives, the adaptation of theatre for virtual reality. An appendix includes Franco Perrelli’s long-unavailable translation of Strindberg’s original text, alongside Maddalena Mazzocut-Mis’s dramaturgy for the Milan production. Through this transmedial approach, the volume reinterprets a classic of Western theatre for contemporary audiences.
