Synopsis

The conference held on the 17th and 18th of September 2022 was a meaningful collaborative occasion between the University of Milan, the city of Tarquinia and the scientific community. This volume gathers all the outcomes of those days while celebrating Maria Bonghi Jovino, professor emerita of the University of Milan and honorary citizen of Tarquinia and recognised as a "hero founder" for her archaeological research, which began forty years ago. Her work established the basis for interdisciplinary and international research to enhance the public's awareness of the ancient city. This volume presents a wide overview of Tarquinia, spanning archaeology and history to Etruscan religion with a particular interest in interdisciplinary, internationality and third mission, and cultural heritage preservation.

Author Biography

Giovanna Bagnasco Gianni

Giovanna Bagnasco Gianni is a Professor of Etruscology at the University of Milan and director of the CRC ‘Tarquinia Project’ to which various departments of the same university and Italian and international academic institutions belong. She is director of the journal ‘Aristonothos. Rivista di Studi sul Mediterraneo Antico’ and co-director of the series ‘Tarchna’. A full member of the National Institute for Etruscan and Italic Studies and of the scientific committees of various projects and museums, she has organised numerous international conferences and participated as a speaker at prestigious conferences worldwide.

Her publications span broad areas of research, from archaeology and epigraphy to history and methodologies, and have significantly contributed to the understanding of Etruscan civilisation and its cultural heritage in the 20th century. She actively contributes to disseminating knowledge of Etruscan civilisation in the contemporary world through various interdisciplinary projects involving the most modern technologies.
