Milano University Press adheres to the principles of open science, as it believes that publicly funded university research should give back to professionals, students citizens and the society. That is why Milano UP will always publish open access books, whether they be for scientific, teaching or dissemination purposes.
We are strongly committed to disseminating the principles of process transparency, accessibility and reproducibility of research publications. We believe in the importance of ensuring transparent editorial procedures, so that the scientific community and the general public can clearly understand how contents are selected and evaluated. Moreover, we try to make our research publications available to a wide range of readers (students, professionals and interested citizens). Finally, we promote the reproducibility of research by encouraging authors to share data, methods and tools used, to facilitate a better understanding and evaluation of scientific findings.
For this reason, Milano UP has decided to position itself as a public infrastructure that aims to remove costs for authors of the University, as well as for any reader with an Internet connection. In line with our commitment to open access, we want to make sure that publication and access to scientific articles are completely free of charge. This allows researchers to freely share their results, while readers can access quality information without any financial barrier.
Quality, dignity, inclusion, respect for diversity and multilingualism are the inspiring principles of Milano UP, which seeks to create a fair, welcoming and inclusive platform for its authors, researchers and readers.
We promote quality as a key criterion for our publications, and we meticulously evaluate scientific contents with a view to ensuring academic excellence and valuable works. We believe that knowledge production and dissemination should be informed by these values.
Milano UP attaches great importance to respecting copyright. We are well aware that intellectual property rights are essential to protect the work of authors and researchers, and to enhance the production of new knowledge. We undertake to respect and adhere to copyright laws and implement measures to guarantee that our publications comply with current regulations.
We adopt Creative Commons licenses to ensure a conscious and legal sharing of knowledge. Our goal is to promote knowledge dissemination while respecting copyright, striking a balance between accessibility and protection of intellectual property.
Moreover, we care about environmental sustainability. As a matter of fact, we publish our contents mainly in digital format, to reduce the environmental impact of printing and facilitate global accessibility of our materials. However, for specific printing needs, we offer a print on demand service upon request.
The wide dissemination of contents produced by professors and research fellows of our University plays a key role in fostering the circulation of ideas, scientific discussions, exchanges and critical thinking. This contributes greatly to the development of our society as a whole, while offering growth and learning opportunities to all citizens.
Milano UP acknowledges the importance of artificial intelligence innovations, and their resulting challenges and opportunities. We are aware that artificial intelligence has been changing different sectors of the society, including education, scientific research and many others.
In this framework, Milano UP undertakes to encourage a wide debate, within the academic community and the society as a whole, on risks and opportunities resulting from the use of artificial intelligence. We will always be ready to raise ethical, legal, social and economic issues related to the implementation and use of these technologies.
In accordance with the principles of Open Science, Milano University Press intends to promote open access to scientific literature and the dissemination of research findings.
Series and books are published on an open access basis to ensure the widest possible dissemination and circulation of peer-reviewed scientific knowledge.
