Synopsis

In this volume, we publish a series of essays, speeches and institutional acts dedicated to the protection of workers' rights. These fundamental rights, which are non-derogable and in part also non-transferable, form the common thread running through Carlo Smuraglia's thinking, both in his earlier essays, in which the author develops a genuine doctrine of workers' rights, and in his more recent works, which update and adapt these rights to technical progress and the changing working conditions of recent years. The writings are accompanied by draft laws presented by Carlo Smuraglia aimed at ensuring respect for the dignity of the working person, such as those on sexual harassment, the protection of atypical jobs and the promotion of work for prisoners, as well as the fact-finding investigation into the implementation of Law No. 125/1991 on gender equality in the workplace.

Author Biography

Carlo Smuraglia

This volume contains a collection of essays that revisit the themes of labour in the Constitution and the Workers' Statute. It also includes a number of essays and conference reports dedicated to the evolution of legislation and the analysis of labour policies needed to overcome the various economic crises that have cyclically affected employment and working conditions. However, Carlo Smuraglia never talks about a crisis in labour law, but rather about how to update and adapt regulations to changing contexts, always with the same attention to people's needs and the demands of trade unions, while at the same time looking to foreign experiences for lessons and ideas.
