Ande, amate Ande: reminiscenze di un ambasciatore italiano in America Latina
Keywords:
Bernardino Osio, Memoir writing, Latin American history, History of Italian diplomacy, Italy-Latin America relationsSynopsis
Along the thread of memory, Bernardino Osio retraces his experience in Peru and Latin America during crucial decades: from his mission as Italian Ambassador to Lima (1990–1994), at the outset of the Fujimori presidency during the conflicto armado interno, to his leadership of the Istituto Italo-Latino Americano and the Unione Latina (1994–2008), against the backdrop of the progressive consolidation of neoliberal globalization across the subcontinent. The author approaches the act of remembering by combining attention to detail, sensitivity to the human dimension, and a marked inclination to situate his professional experience within a broader historical framework. The result is the distinctive character of Ande, amate Ande: a gallery of vivid tableaux marked by empathy and engagement with people, places, and the historical legacy shaped over the long centuries of the Ibero-American world, while at the same time constituting a source abounding in references to the forms, temporalities, and protagonists of the relations between Italy and Latin America, at the core of the editorial project of the Texturas series.
